What is Solstice Healing Arts?

Solstice Healing Arts is an organization that makes the life enhancing benefits of yoga available to everyone no matter their state of health or financial resources. Working with like-minded agencies and individuals, Solstice offers classes, workshops, and private yoga sessions at a number of locations and at various prices.   Solstice Yoga sites include Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Spanaway, Auburn, Fife and  Puyallup.  Classes range from general for all levels of experience to specific classes for those living with MS or Cancer, Yoga for Seniors, and Adaptive Yoga for anyone living with limitations.

Why Yoga?

The ancient practice of yoga has long been an effective way to relieve stress, tone the muscles and achieve balance in body, mind, and emotions. In America today many people have been afraid to try yoga because they feel they aren't flexible or strong enough. They are afraid that if they don't look like the models doing the poses they will fail at yoga. However, everyone associated with Solstice Healing Arts respects the unique situation of each individual. The practice is adapted to the individual, not the individual to the practice. Solstice Healing Arts is based upon an understanding of the health and healing benefits of yoga utilizing the techniques and tools of vinigoga. Viniyoga means, "proper adaptation based on the situation." This highly adaptable, uniquely healing form of yoga can be used by people of all levels and physical abilities.

Who is behind Solstice Healing Arts?

Owner Hal Meng originally came to yoga in 1973 seeking relief from back and shoulder injuries. He found it!  He is a Certified Yoga Teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance at over 2000 hours of teaching experience.  Hal is also a Licensed Massage Practitioner. His training includes the Iyengar style of yoga, and yoga in the tradition of Krishnamacharya and  TKV Desikachar.  He continues his training locally and in India. In addition to teaching classes to enhance health for all, Hal works with a group of associates and agencies to develop programs that make the benefits of yoga available to those living with injuries, disabilities or life threatening illnesses.
